The ROOF Project works to keep homeowners in their homes, to reduce the financial and personal costs to families where continued homeownership is not possible, and to provide support to renters who are facing eviction due to their landlord’s foreclosure. Our approach includes two elements, each designed to mitigate the fallout from foreclosures: Outreach: Educate borrowers on how best to avoid foreclosure and renters on how to protect their rights when dealing with a landlord’s foreclosure through public events, media and mailings. Assistance: Coordinate assistance to at-risk homeowners and displaced renters, expand resources for foreclosure intervention counseling, and provide strategic litigation assistance. The ROOF Project will also continually plug into state and federal policy initiatives to track borrowers' experience with lenders and find patterns of abuse; ensure good credit options for low-and-moderate income borrowers; combat predatory lending practices; ensure that renters receive the maximum amount of time available by law before facing eviction due to a landlord’s foreclosure; and support other regulatory, policy, and legislative initiatives. |
